As I explained in my last email almost 2 months ago, I had a broken motherboard that was going to cost me a lot to fix. As a regional airline first officer paying student loans, it is not always easy to keep up with the finances. I wound up financing a new laptop and it took me quite awhile to set everything back up, including the data transfer and figuring out what needed to be reinstalled. It is nice to finally be back at it. I am in a major transitional period now as well. I will give you the news when this period is finished. This should be within about 1 month.
Despite having great benefits for the urinary tract and kidney health, cranberries might not be the solution for some with kidney stones.
The benefits are many derived from cranberries. They contain a polyphenolic material which effectively combats bacteria and viruses. Studies have shown this to be effective in particular in urinary tract infection prevention. Cranberries cause urine to make hippuric acid which prevents bacteria from adhering to the walls of the bladder. They also contain powerful anti-oxidants which help fight cancer-causing free radicals. In addition, they increase the good cholesterol in your body while reducing the bad. Cranberries have been shown to improve skin health, reduce acne and cellulite, and prevent macular degeneration of the eye as well. For the kidneys they have shown to provide the kidney repairing nutrient quercetin. You can discover more about these repair building blocks and associated foods here. They are useful in particular against a rarer form of kidney stone, a brushite kidney stone.
Unfortunately for some cranberries increase the risk of kidney stones. Cranberries elevate the levels of magnesium and calcium. This increases the risk of oxalate stones. Those who have a history of uric acid stones should avoid cranberries even more than others. Avoiding cranberries if you have stones currently could be very helpful as cranberries are contraindicated. At any rate, determine with your health care practitioner the amount that suits you so you can enjoy the benefits as much as possible.
